Meteor Shower is estimated to reach its climax in the night between 17th and 18th November. The meteor shower would be most visible in Asia, the observers in the other parts of the world are being suggested to observe the meteor shower after 2:00 a.m. in the night. The light of the moon would not interrupt viewing the meteors.
Leonids is the most scenic meteor shower.
Leonids Meteor Shower start from 13th November and their frequency reach the peak on the night of 17th November. As the Leonid meteor shower starts it is not very noticeable but the frequency increases with the each coming day until they climax on 17th November, after which the frequency start decreasing till 21st November. During the peak hour the number of meteors visible would be approximately 500 per hour.
Perhaps the most increased meteor shower activity was observed during the years 1998 to 2002. The years experiencedd thousands of meteor per hour on 17th November night.
Meteors is very common phenomenon and other meteors accompany Leonids. To differentiate between two, mentally project a line of trajectory of the meter, if the line seems to be meeting Leo than the meteor belongs to Leonids Meteor Shower.
It was the fateful day of 12th November 1833 when the astronomers observed an “unusual” phenomenon in the skies. The activity looked like a nature’s own firework. That night the meteor shower was named as Leonids. The branch of astronomy dealing with meteors also took start from that day.
