An intelligent speech by Obama, State of the union address can be termed as an effort to regain the support of voters. As a good speaker Obama knows how to win the hearts of people. Unfortunately his first year in white house was not so bright and he admitted that.
He had inherited two wars and a sick economy with defaulting big enterprises and rising unemployment. He used the fiscal measures for the betterment of economy that have not worked. His health care agenda has not found the required support.
The people of Massachusetts were not charged by his pleas and elected a Republican. In this alarming situation he has chosen to “reset the button” but is there any push button that can assemble voters and gain their sympathies for the upcoming midterm election.
Contrary to facts Obama State of the union address claims to have saved over two million jobs through “recovery ac economic stimulus”. He has shifted his focus from health care to “job creation.” The agenda now goes like “Job creation”, “tax reduction”, “revival of the economy”.
Some observers have criticized Obama state of the union address for taking the credit of killing more terrorists in Afghanistan and Pakistan. The observers think this means Obama is walking on the footsteps of Bush and the promise to withdraw the troops is only verbal may not materialize.
His vow to work on bipartisan basis is not really welcomed by Democrats. The political commentators are also pointing to the shift Obama has made regarding the Govt. spending. He has suggested a spending freeze from 2011 in contrast to the fact that during his election campaign he was a strong advocate of Fiscal measures.
Apparently Obama state of the union address has failed to accomplish political support.
