Well, Jim Carrey is my favorite actor, so don’t expect this review to be an impartial look at the 1985 film “Once Bitten”! Seeing Jim Carrey in one of his earlier roles is indeed great. Jeff Hause was not a professional writer and had dilemma of choosing a career for himself at his hands, when he penned the plot for the film. The movie was originally titled as “Nightlife”. Jim Carrey plays the role of Mark – The Virgin. Jim Carrey is every bit interesting in his facial gestures, dialogue delivery and acting. His buddies, Jamie and Russ are proficient in sexual relationships and advise mark to go to Hollywood to get the virginity issue off his head. There is a problem, Mark has a girlfriend Robin and Mark wants to remain faithful to her and does not want to get into sexual relationships until Robin is ready.
Mark’s problems are going to b multiplied. There is a vampiress who wants to be young and the potion she needs to get her desire fulfilled is a virgin’s blood. The conditions are that the blood is to be gulped for three times before the Halloween day. Mark is mesmerized to go to her vast estate. As she drinks his blood once, he is made to believe that he has broken his virginity by sleeping with countess/vampiress.
Robin gets the news but her true love for Mark compels her to forgive him. Meanwhile Mark starts behaving like vampires, shunning light, craving uncooked meat etc. But …. She needs to drink Mark’s blood for two more times for her youth to come back and for Mark to completely transform into vampire.
A light hearted watchable movie.
