US computer giant IBM Corp. has acquired “Ounce Labs Inc.” in a deal under secret terms. Ounce Labs Inc. is a private organization which builds Compliance and Security software. According to a press release, IBM said that it has a strategy to incorporate the source code security testing product of “Ounce Labs Inc.” venture with its “IBM Rational AppScan” family security products.
The Ounce Labs Inc. Company was established in 2002 and since then it is providing a product which examines software source code to recognize security vulnerabilities (in computer security, the term vulnerability is applied to a weakness in a system which allows a hacker to violate the integrity of that system) in source code.
IBM Corp. has also decided to retain about thirty employees of “Ounce Labs Inc.” including Chief Executive Officer “Gary Jackson” and will shift them to its “Mass Lab Facility” in Westford and Littleton.
An IBM spokesman said that Mass Lab Facility is the biggest software facility in North America.
The previous two Massachusetts acquisitions made in April, 2008 by the IBM; when it purchased “Framingham-based Diligent Technologies Corp” (a maker of disk-based data-reduplication systems) and “Newton-based FilesX Inc.” (a provider of continuous data protection for remote offices).
General Manager IBM Rational Software “Daniel Sabbah” stated in a statement that the acquisition will permit IBM Corp. to offer a wide-ranging of security testing application for Business customers and Government during whole software delivery procedures.
