Another night in to Patrick Cudahy Fire not only it drained the city’s water supply but also tested the endurance of hundreds of locals, who are forced to vacant their residences due to the threat of smoke that billowed from the inferno. The Patrick Cudahy fire that started on Sunday 05 July is still not under control and according to authorities it might take another 36 hours of firefighting to douse the blaze in an extensive compound of more than 1.3 million square feet.
The Patrick Cudahy Inc. is a meatpacking plant and the building in which this plant is situated is almost 121 years old. Officials believe that the blaze started in a vacant area of the plant and cardboard and plastic packaging materials helped the fire to grow extensively. Over 100 firefighters from more than 25 area departments are fighting to control the Patrick Cudahy fire.
Authorities have warned thousands of the locals to evacuate their residences temporarily due to a possible ammonia explosion. Firefighter Lieutenant Craig Langowski of Franklin told the media that this is the biggest blaze he has faced in his 20 year career.
