Peter Moore, a British hostage in the Iraq, has been released alive from captivity.
The news was released by British Foreign Secretary David Miliband who confirmed that Peter Moore, an IT consultant from Lincoln, has been released from the captivity in Iraq. Miliband told that Peter Moore who was kidnapped in May 2007 was released alive and is in good health.
It is believed that Peter Moore is the only hostage which is alive. He was seized along with four other people. Three of the hostages were shot killed while there is no news about the fourth. It is believed that the fourth has also been killed. The hostages included Jason Swindlehurst, Jason Creswell, Peter Moore, Alan McMenemy, and Alec MacLachlan. The bodies of Jason Swindlehurst and Jason Creswell were returned to UK in June 2009 while Alec MacLachlan’s dead body was sent in September.
David Miliband told that the British government has asked for the release of Alan McMenemy.
The British Foreign Secretary also told that Peter Moore was released on Wednesday morning and he is in the British embassy in Baghdad. He told that the government is preparing to reunite him with his family.
Peter Moore’s relatives were deeply relieved when they heard the news. His father expressed his joy and said he is ‘over the moon’.
British Prime Minister also expressed his relief over the news of Peter’s release. In a statement the British premier said that the government also remembers the families of those hostages who were killed during the captivity and vowed to continue the efforts to bring other kidnapped hostages back to UK.
