Picasso’s famous painting was accidentally damaged at the Metropolitan Museum of New York when a woman crashed into it apparently after loosing her balance. The painting’s lower right hand corner was damaged vertically. The art lover who crashed into the painting remained unharmed. The commercial worth of the painting is as high as 80 million pounds. The actor has been placed in the Conservation studio of the museum for necessary assessment and treatment. It is hoped that the treatment will not be obtrusive as the damage is in a lower corner.
Picasso the actor is a six feet tall painting that shows a male actor on stage dressed in pink. The painting was made during the rose period. The paintings of rose period were made in warm colors. The subjects of the rose period are acrobats, clowns and circus people. The artwork of this period has fluency of line and romanticism. Picasso the actor is dressed in pink color. The painting was finished in 1905.
Picasso the Actor was gifted to the Metropolitan museum by Thelma Chrysler in 1957. The Actor graced the 2nd floor of the museum among the art work of early Spanish painters.
Another masterpiece “Le Reve” of Picasso was damaged by Stephen Wynn. He got it repaired and the painting hangs in his office.
Picasso the actor is one of 250 exhibits that will be displayed in the upcoming exhibition “Picasso in the Metropolitan Museum of Art” starting from April 27, 2010. Picasso is better known for his abstract work.
