Plymouth state University remains under alert and students have been advised to not to leave their rooms. A suspicious man was seen in the campus premises with the gun, earlier in the night. As the sighting was reported to the officials, immediate actions were taken to locate the person.
As the story is developing no shootings have been reported and the police have not been able to pin point the suspect. It is also not certain whether the suspect belonged to PSU or was an outsider.
The man seen was wearing a hooded T-Shirt and a hat. Students reported that he was armed with a gun and the butt of the gun was visible. The man is also reported to have been under the effect of some type of intoxication as his speech was slurred.
First report was filed at about 06.00 p.m. about a white man passing through the dorms towards the Performing Arts Centre.
Authorities have made it clear that University has not been closed, and no businesses have been advised to halt their operations.
Meanwhile campus students were taking precautionary measures themselves by being alert towards any suspicious activity and remaining in their dorm rooms.
There was concern among the students that whole the event may be a hoax but the presence of large number of police force and the measures being taken make it clear that the event was not a prank.
The neighboring Holderness School was also put under alert. The boarding students were advised to remain in their rooms, while the students going to their home were made to take extra safety measures to ensure their safe return to home.
