Pompeii, an ancient city of Italy, has been added to Google Street View. Google Street View is an internet tourist tool which allows #D view of different cities. Cities from around the world have been added to the Google Street View service. Pompeii is a recent addition to the list of cities which are covered by this tool.
Pompeii is an ancient city which was buried under the ashes of a volcano. It was discovered in 18th century. It is now partially ruined and is located near the Italian region of Campania near Naples. It was buried during the catastrophic eruption of volcano during 79 AD. The volcanic eruption collapsed the roof lines of the city and Pompeii remained lost under ashes and pumice for nearly 1,700 years. It was accidentally discovered in 1748. It is now added to UNESO cultural heritage sites and has been opened to tourists. It is one of those ancient sites which are visited by the greatest number of tourists. In 2007, Pompeii received 2,571,725 visitors.
Italy’s cultural minister has commented on adding Pompeii to Google’s street View and says that it will bring more tourists to the city.
Google Street View has been critically acclaimed by many. Many educators believe that it provides a free service to students and scholars to virtually visit the important cities of the world. Many people believe that Street View gives the users greater opportunity to learn more about its listed cities. As for Pompeii, the Google Street View users will be able to virtually tour its temples, ancient theaters, and figurines.
