Love really happens and there are no formulas to warn you about when, where and how. Jennifer Aniston is a florist in the movie “Love Happens” recently released. She has this outlet named “Eloise’s Garden” in the hotel. She has a habit of writing strange words like “Quidnunc” behind the picture frames. Quidnunc being a person totally absorbed in his quest to know the latest happenings. Eckhart on the other hand is deeply absorbed in the memories of her lost wife, without knowing it.
Eckhart in his effort to forget the death of his wife in an accident learns a lot about bereavement. His knowledge gives him the false belief that he has come out of mourning the death of his wife and he has come to terms with the reality. The belief makes him a bereavement expert, who lectures on the subject and even has authored a book on the subject titled “A-Okay!” As he stays in the hotel where Aniston has her shop of flowers, “Love Happens”. She makes him realize his biggest folly that he is out of bereavement process. Aniston has that woman’s instinct to smell back ground processes in a man’s head. She pushes Eckhart to get her wife’s parrot back from her parents and set it free as a symbol of coming out of the shell that he has made around himself.
There is this nice moment of facing the truth and letting it go, when Eckhart breaks down and all present start applauding.
As an after-thought Eckhart indeed was a Quidnunc being too deep in his own reverie and Eloise – Aniston pulls him back to life or reality.
Indeed, a better use of the word “Quidnunc” and an amazing movie to see.
