The story behind the Raffaello Follieri & Hathaway love story!
A big name of real estate industry, Raffaello Follieri, has once remained the boyfriend of Hollywood actress Anne Hathaway. He got arrested for being involved in fraudulent property deal. Here’s a brief biography of the ‘Zach Braff’ look-alike Italian real estate agent:
Raffaello Follieri was born in 1978 in San Giovanni Rotondo, a small town of Italy. He is his parents’ only child. Follieri’s father Pasquale is a lawyer and a journalist. His upbringing was done in a strong Catholic environment and he spent his childhood in a luxury lifestyle. He studied law and economics at the University of Rome. During his student life at University of Rome, Raffaello Follieri formed a company named Beauty Planet. The company was founded in 1999 and it produced beauty products for hair and body care. Raffaello Follieri’s Beauty Planet was quite a success, according to his personal website, but the records say something opposite. He liquidated his company’s half of the assets for only $8,000 in 2002. 2002 was the year when Raffaello Follieri decided to start a new life and left Italy for New York City. After arriving on the American land, he decided to build a real estate agency and soon made very important contacts with the likes of Bill Clinton and billionaire Ronald Burkle. Some big investors invested millions of dollars with his real estate agency only to know that Raffaello Follieri is involved in several money laundering and fraud cases.
FBI charged Raffaello Follieri with 11 counts of frauds. A judge set a bail of $21 million for Raffaello Follieri which he could not raise and had to serve in jail.
The New Yorkers recall Raffaello Follieri as a man who had the greatest of the falls – from his lavish apartment and jet settings to a small cell of a correctional jail.
