Rashard Mendenhall not only ran 165 yards, most yards derived by any Steelers’ running back since 2006, he stole 2 touchdowns as well on Sunday nights and if this is the only way to make him respond, I think coach Mike Tomlin should punish him every now and then.
Whereas Mike Tomlin talking to the media said, he is not going to take credit for Rashard Mendenhall’s hard work, he has done a nice job.
Steelers have always knew that Rashard Mendenhall had the potential to turn around the game, even when he was drafted back in 2008, he was the 28th pick overall, but he was never that much attentive during the practice and in games sometime miss blocking the assignments too.
It was the right time to send him message to be his self by punishment and Mike Tomlin did exactly that, he benched Rasherd Mendenhall in the 3 week of the season, just before playing against Cincinnati Bengals.
Rashard Mendenhall was given a chance this Sunday because Willie Parker was not available due to a turf toe, and Mendenhall cashed the chance well. Not only his statistics were impressive, but it was his performance that turned heads. He used his force to do everything in the game; he broke tackles and delivered various plugging blocks while protecting the passes.
Everyone in the stadium did witness that he received the message from the coach and received it well.
Talking to the media Rashard Mendenhall said Coach Mike Tomlin challenged him and it was a learning accumulation of knowledge and skill, he also said that all he needed was a chance to prove him.
It was a convincing victory by Steelers over Chargers with final scores 38-28.
