Blame it on a new book “Most Evil” by Steve Hodel that the name of Richard Gaikowski has resurfaced. Steve Hodel has been with LAPD for 24 years. The book establishes Hodel’s father Dr. George Hodel was serial killer named “Zodiac Killer.” The serial killer has five murders to his name. Although police alleges him for many more murders, the cases remain to be proved. The murders took place in North California area in 1960s. Zodiac Killer dispatched four ciphers in the form of cryptograms to newspapers. Only one of the four was deciphered. The case was closed as dead. The zodiac killer file was reopened in 2007.
Richard Gaikowski’s name is often comes into light as possible zodiac killer. One reason behind the suspicion is the name Gyke which was sent to newspapers. He is also said to have operated a magazine which advocated killing white teens and was thoroughly anti police. Richard Gaikowski lived just near to the homes of one of the victims – Paul Stine. Gikowski moved to Albany New York as that of the zodiac victim Darlene Ferrin. But at best these claims are just theories and nothing has ever been proved against Gaikowski.
Richard Gaikowski in his real life was a write a film maker and art lover. He was heavily into the psychedelic substances that were part and parcel of the art scene of 1970s. He started his career as taxi driver but is said to have hit a pedestrian the first day he took his cab out.
