San Francisco Police is reinvestigating a murder case after 25 years. The 25-year-old case involved the murder of a 9-year-old girl Mei Leung who was first sexually assaulted and then murdered in her basement. The San Francisco police is examining the DNA of Richard Ramirez who is imprisoned in San Quentin prison. He is death sentenced after conviction of 13 murder cases. Police is claiming that Ramirez may be involved in Mei’s murder as well as they have found DNA links.
Mei Leung and his brother were looking for a one dollar bill in their basement. Mei’s brother went outside in the search and when he returned home he saw Mei hanging with a pipe in the basement. Police kept the case open for investigation for 25 years and have finally had a break through in the investigations due to some new information from Investigator Holly Pera.
Holly Pera joined started her career as an investigator when the murder of the nine-year-old happened. She recalls, ‘It is the type of case as a new officer that you don’t forget.’ Holly Pera worked on the case with Inspector Joseph Toomey for several years and says that the DNA samplings taken from the crime scene may provide proves about Ramirez’s links with the child’s murder, though no charges have been made yet against him. Police has acquired the warrants to take the DNA samplings of Richard.
Richard Ramirez is a serial killer and rapist who is involved in 13 murder cases – 11 of which were done Southern California while 2 were done in San Francisco. Richard Ramirez proclaimed himself a Satanist. He was also known as Night Stalker as he used to carry out his criminal activities in very early hours of the morning. Richard’s usual method of crime was to kill the male person in the house first and then ransack the house for valuables. He then used to rape the female and later killed the woman too. For a long time, police was unable to identify or name the suspect. In 1985, he was finally identified by the police after getting information from a hotel manager in San Francisco. By then Richard Ramirez had left the area. His posters were published in news papers as well. He was finally brought down by the residents of Los Angeles who saw him robbing a car. Ramirez was sentenced to death in 1985.
