Richie Ashburn, Don Richard the famous American baseball player and one of the great legends of Major League Baseball, He was also called Whitey and the reason was his light colored hairs. He played in Major League Baseball as a center fielder. Richie Ashburn was born in Tilden Nebraska on 19th March 1927 and died on 9th September 1997.
Richie remained associated with the Philadelphia and played 12 out of his 15 seasons with Phillies as a centerfielder. He served the Phillies from 1948 to 1959.
Richie also proved him on the ground as one of the most significant hitter of the ball as well as sweet and clean fielder on the infield. On his day he always made the crowd entertained with his bating. He hit the ball like a rocket and accurately.
Richie got very sweet memories on the field and off the field. Once in a match he hit a foul ball out of the ground into the stands which hits a lady and her nose broke. When the play begins again he hit another foul ball out of the ground and this time it hits the husband of the same lady. Later on they become very good friends.
After the retirement from the game, Richie becomes the color commentator for the Television and the radio and he did the commentary for his own team Phillies. He even died during the commentary for his team in 1997 with a heat attack. He was paid tribute by the big crowed on the ground. He died during the match at Shea Stadium.
Richie was well honored and acknowledged by the baseball related bodies. He was nominated as a Hall of famer in year 1995. Numbers of places were named on his name in his honor like the Citizen Bank Park and the Richie Whitey Ashburn Broadcast Booth.
