The Chief of Uttar Pradesh Congress “Rita Bahuguna Joshi” was arrested on Tuesday and sent to the Moradabad jail in judicial custody for 14 days. She was arrested on a charge of insulting the Chief Minister “Myawati”. On late Wednesday night, after members of the ruling Bahujan Samaj Party of state put fire to the home of Rita Bahuguna Joshi.
At the time when her home was under attack, Rita Bahuguna Joshi was arrested in Ghaziabad on the way to New Delhi. It is believed that Rita Bahuguna Joshi was charged for making insulting comments about Mayawati under the Scheduled caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act 1989.
Rita Bahuguna Joshi was taken to the house of Chief Judicial magistrate in Moradabad on early Thursday morning. However, the magistrate sent her in judicial custody.
Rita Bahuguna Joshi denied having said anything to insult Mayawati. She told to the journalist that she just want to remind Mayawati that being a woman she should understand that a worthless monetary return cannot make up for what a woman loses on due to rape. Her 50 years old maid Munni said while talking about the attack on home of Rita Bahuguna Joshi that a group of masked men stormed into the home around midnight with raising slogans for Mayawati and against Joshi. All of them were equipped with iron rods, firewood and petrol cans.
They broke everything before shaking petrol and throwing stick with fire to put the house on fire. She also told that there were many policemen at the time of fire but remained mute viewers. The fire raged for almost two hours, after then 4 servants were taken away in a police automobile, added by the maid.
