Robert Enke, goal keeper for German National soccer team has died in an accident which appears to be a suicide. He was hit by the train running from Hanover to Bremen. His car was parked near the crossing and his purse was still inside the car, indicating that the incident was not the result of some burglary attempt.
German Football Association quickly responded by saying that all the team is shocked at the incident and that their feelings cannot be expressed by words.
Robert Enke’s death has left many question marks behind. The most important one is, what conditions prompted this extreme step?
Robert Enke’s daughter was born in 2004 but she died at the age of 2 of the causes related to a rare cardiac problem. The couple went on to adopt a child.
Apart from playing for famous clubs like Carl Zeiss, Borussia and Barcelona, Robert Enke had represented Germany for eight times.
He was credited as the best goal keeper of the German Soccer Team.
Lately he has been sick with a viral disease but had fully recovered and returned to play recently.
He was seen as the German team’s biggest asset in upcoming world cup in South Africa.
German Football Association’s President Dr Theo Zwanziger said that the team members are “mourning” the death of Robert Enke. The German team’s friendly match with Chile has been cancelled.
Police authorities have told the media that full details would be revealed later today.
Many soccer fans are blaming the stress faced by the players to be the reason.
