Olivia and Rodrigo Karolys story contains so much twists, turns and complications that it could have made a great thriller novel. However the story is true and spans two continents with totally different culture and laws to apprehend criminals. Rodrigo Karolys had difficulty adjusting him in the society and had resorted to many illegal activities. He went on to marry a Mexican immigrant Olivia Karolys. Olivia had immigrated to North America when she was only 11 but had not been able to get her status legalalized. They had a daughter together named Lenora. The relationships between the couple deteriorated and Rodrigo fled to China to avoid criminal charges against him.
The twist in the tale came when she invited his wife to visit him in China. As Olivia visited Rodrigo, he abducted their daughter Lenora and there was no trace left to search him. A Mexican in China, Olivia was at odds to handle the situation.
She was an illegal immigrant so American Embassy was not able to help her. American Child Custody Laws are not recognized in China and on top of it, China does not consider it illegal if a parent kidnaps a child!! She was simply doomed.
The love of child motivated her to withstand all difficulties. Her first breakthrough came as she discovered a website with the title “Rodrigo Karolys Livejournal”. Reading the contents she thought she had made the mistake of her life. The website contained details of Rodrigo’s illegal activities – his boasting about the situation and yes, about their child Lenora.
Olivia went on to get American citizenship. Her elder sister proved instrumental in securing FBI’s help. And the end Mother and baby arrived in American on 23rd of this month.
Rodrigo is in American police’s custody, waiting to be tried in court.
