Remember the recently done ‘Balloon Boy’ publicity stunt by the Heene family? The incident has got more news coverage than any other hoax in last many years. The publicity stunt was done by Richard Heene who is working on a reality show. In his proposal Heene says, “This will be the most substantial UFO-related news event to take place since the Roswell Crash of 1947″. Richard, who intend to generate heat for his show and fame for his family said, “the result will be a striking increase in national and local reorganization of The Heene Family, our Reality Series, in addition to the UFO Phenomenon in general.’ And it’s not just Heene who has compared the Balloon Boy hoax to Roswell crash of 1947 but many leading news commentators have also said the same words. Why are they comparing this incident to Roswell Crash? In fact, a better question should be, “What is Roswell Crash of 1947 anyway?”
This article is intended to throw some light on this event for those who do not know much about the Roswell Crash of 1947:
In July 1947, some military men at the area found extra-terrestrial debris near Roswell, New Mexico, USA. The following day a news headline caught the attention of millions which stated that the military has found a crashed ‘flying disc’ near a ranch at Roswell. Many theories were generated about the nature of the debris and the conflicts present in these theories resulted into many controversies. Investigations were carried out, press conferences were called by the officials, and even a congressional investigation was also carried out to resolve the matter. As a result of these investigations, many theories were generated. The U.S. military claimed that the debris was actually a surveillance balloon which crashed to the ground. According to the military, the balloon was a part of a project named ‘Mogul’. Many other theories were also generated which are even more interesting. Those who opposed the military’s theory claimed that the debris belonged to an alien UFO which crashed the earth. They also claimed that many alien bodies were also found.
The whole incident turned into a controversy and Roswell became a pop-culture name which was often used as a synonym to UFOs. The Roswell Crash of 1947 is one of the most publicized and controversial news.
