The secret aircraft, which once could only be seen in pictures and photos, actually exists. The US Air Force has confirmed the presence of RQ-170 Sentinel among their aircrafts.
RQ-170 Sentinel is also known as ‘Beast of Kandahar’ and was considered a mysterious aircraft, which was seen in Afghanistan’s aerial territories in 2007, prior to the release of this statement. US Air Force officials revealed the truth about the craft in a brief interview with a magazine and provided details about the manufacturing and functioning of the craft.
RQ-170 Sentinel is an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) which was developed with a vision to provide more surveillance to the ground forces. This UAV drone was developed by Advanced Development Programs of Lockheed Martin. The Advanced Development Programs (ADP) is also known as Skunk Works. Lockheed Martin was founded in 1955 and specializes in advanced technology for manufacturing of arms for aerospace security. It is the world’s largest defense contractor and almost 95% of the total revenue comes from US Department of defense.
RQ-170 Sentinel has a 65 ft. wingspan and is tail-less aircraft. Not many details have been revealed about its structure. RQ-170 Sentinel is loaded with sensors which are built in the upper rim of each of the two wings. ‘RQ’ flying aircrafts does not carry weapons.
RQ-170 Sentinel is deployed in Afghanistan. These UAVs are operated through 30th Reconnaissance Squadron which is located at Tonopah Test range Airport.
