Ruth Lilly a famous philanthropist and the last surviving great grandchild of the pharmaceutical industry’s giant Eli Lilly had passed away. The news was released by a family spokesman. She died on Wednesday in Indianapolis. Ruth Lilly was 94.
It is being reported that ruth Lilly had battled with depression for many years and she received great help from the Eli Lilly & Co.’ s very popular anti-depressant Prozac. Prozac was introduced in 1988 in the pharmaceutical market.
Ruth Lilly was married for 40 years but her marriage didn’t end very well. She was divorced with no children.
Ruth Lilly had remained associated it with philanthropy and charity work for most of her life. Her charity work has widened over the course of her life. Ruth Lilly distributed a large part of her fortune to charity organizations. She had special love for art and the court documents reveal that over the course of her life Ruth Lilly had given away a large fortune to art-related groups. The Indianapolis Art Museum is located on the site which belonged to her parents’ estate. Ruth Lilly and her brother donated the land in 1966. Her fortune was worth $1 billion in year 2002, according to the court documents. The family statement says that Ruth Lilly had given a large part of her fortune to Indiana-based organizations.
She has also established two fellowships in Indian University for poetry students. Ruth Lilly was declared incompetent to handle her financial matters in 1981 and since then a court-appointed guardian had managed her dealings.
No details about Ruth Lilly’s funeral are available.
