One the most nightmare prosecutors has been appointed by the Government of Iran to investigate against those reformist who have been arrested during recent protest which is a caution to severe crackdown against Government opposed people. It has been also confirmed by the relatives of the arrested demonstrators that Saeed
Mortazavi will be heading the investigation against the prisoners.
Saeed Mortazavi is a personality who is well known as “The Butcher of the Press” in Iran. He actually got a bad reputation when in 2003 a Canadian Iranian female photographer was beaten, tortured and raped during her imprisonment and Mortazavi had played his role in her death.
Sara Leah Whiston, Director of Human Rights Watch for Middle East and North Africa said to media that anyone who has a good familiarity with his all time record is saying that the appointment of Saeed Mortazavi is an alarming situation for all the prisoners who were arrested during the protest in Tehran. He has ordered to close hundreds of such newspapers, websites and journals that were seems unfriendly to the current establishment since 2003 being a prosecutor general of Iran and before that when he was a judge only.
He was also involved to arrest more than 20 journalists and bloggers in 2004 that were held in secret prison for a long time and later on they were forced to sign a false declaration of guilt. Mr. Saeed Mortazavi was also involved in the crackdown against those women who were supposedly wearing immodest cloths.
