Fall is here; tree leaves are changing their color, the brightness of sunlight is fading, and air is getting cold every day. The season which comes before the freezing-cold winters also brings numerous festivals. These festivals are attended by thousands every year to celebrate the arrival of the fall. This October too a number of festivals are being organized everywhere in United States.
This weekend, the North Hampshire community celebrates The Sandwich Fair. The Sandwich Fair is one of the oldest fairs of the North Hampshire community and is organized every year regularly. The Sandwich Fair, which started in 1886, is a community fair to exhibit the local farms, cattle, and fruits & vegetables. It is an agricultural event which is organized every year to show the richness of the local farms to the community people and the visitors.
The first Sandwich Fair, which was organized in 1886, exhibited 184 yoke of oxen to the fair visitors. It was then decided that the fair will be held every year in the month of October. The Sandwich Fair of North Hampshire soon became very popular and every year the fair hosted larger number of guests than the previous one. In 1893, the fair hosted as many as 3,000 guests.
This year the fair is being celebrated on 10th, 11th, and the 12th of October. The festival will continue for three days. The Sandwich Fair has multiple animal departments which show different cattle to the visitors. The fair has a horse pulling section, a gymkhana, goat shows, and farmers hitch. In addition to the animal departments, the fair has displays of arts and crafts. This section will display art pieces. Woven rugs, quilts, and Afghans will also be exhibited for sale. There will be an antique shop as well.
The food section of the fair offers unique eatables such as canned fruits and vegetables, baked breads, Honey & Dairy delectable foods, and food baskets. The fair will also host a photography contest, a poster contest, and an antique tractor pulling show.
Entry to the fair is with tickets. The fair will be held at 7 Wentworth, route 109 North, Center Sandwich, NH. For full directions and fair map you can visit the festivals’ website.
