Everything about Sears Towers is an engineering wonder right from day one. Chicago is famous for Sears Towers, “at-least it is one of the reasons”. The tallest building in United States now has a glass cherry on top. If I say that now you have a chance to walk outside the Sears Tower Sky-deck, you must assume that I am crazy, well I am not. Sears Towers a “103 floors high building” has opened their new glass balconies “Sky-deck” for the visitors to experience the walk on top of Chicago or floating over the city.
The Sears Tower Ledge is on the west side of the building, and is suspended 1,353 feet in the air, with practically nothing more than three layers of 1-1/5 inch thick glass under your feet, the glass balconies are just 4 ft out from the main building also has glass wall. You could not even imagine a spectacle until you visit it.
Sears Tower Sky-deck General Manager Randy Stancik said the west side was selected because other portions of the building consists of sub roofs with different roof line, but the visitors can see straight down from this side of the building.
According to Sears Tower officials, the idea came from hundreds of forehead-prints left by the visitors on sky-deck windows every day.
A property owner of Sears Towers John Huston said that he felt very nauseous, when first time he set foot out on the ledge, but after 30, 40 trips to the glass balconies, he feel confident now.
The Sears Towers Ledge is opens to the public today on 2nd July, 2009.
