Sei whale is known to be one of the endangered sea animals in the world. It is the 3rd largest whale in the world. Its size could even reach uptown the length of a bus when grown up (approx. twenty meters long) and could weigh up to forty-five tons. These whales can swim at the speed of fifty kilometers per hour. Sei whale is now banned for export purpose.sei whale is also referred to as Baleen Whale. The whale in the south differs from the whales in the north as well as the males and females have a significant difference. The international Whaling Commission has imposed a quota for the catching of the sei whale. The sei whale population has been decreasing rapidly in the past few years.sei whale are caught for research purposes and illegally sold.
An illegal serving of the sei whale was reported in the hump restaurant located in Santa Monica, LA. The illegal selling was discovered when two marine activists visited the restaurant while pretending to dine for a sea food. They visited three times and every time they were served with the same sei whale which is prohibited by the IWC (International Whaling Commission).It is suspected that the sei whale came from the research program conducted in Japan. The restaurant Hump responsible for the serving of such meat has accepted their mistake and if convicted they would be facing a huge fine of two hundred thousand dollars. It is a common practice to eat sei whale in the countries of East Asia but it will soon be extinct if the catch rate continues this way.
