What could be relief more than finding your missing child, only the parents like Sheriff Bobby Haddock, could feel the relief and happiness of finding a child in the way Shannon Dedrick was found. The seven month old baby girl had gone missing from Saturday between 3 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Shannon Dedrick was found at about 9:55 p.m. Wednesday, November 4, 2009. The child of James Russell Dedrick Jr. and Chrystina Lynn Mercer was reportedly missing for five days. A number of law enforcement agents and other volunteers spent days for searching Shanon Dedrick in dense vines and marshes in the vicinity of baby’s home in a remote area of make shift homes and tin-roof shacks.
Authorities had inkling for the involvement of babysitter in the missing of Shanon Dedrick, contacted Susan Elizabeth Baker and asked for a search of her home. The baby was found under the bed in a box apparently kept in debris to hide her. Authorities further added that they had become suspicious about Bakers when Susan Elizabeth Baker admitted that she had missed her own child a 3 years old Paul Baker in 1987.
The seven month old Florida child was taken to the hospital for evaluation and police says that baby is doing well in the hospital whereas further evaluation will be taken on Thursday.
The police will place charges against the Bakers and mother of Shanon Dedrick, Chrystina Lynn Mercer.
The heart-touching remarks by the sheriff, who explained to media that they were running against time to find Shanon Dedrick alive but to all their surprise they found the baby alive and it was hard for them to control their emotions.
