Singapura Cats are one of the smallest breed of cats. They are not found very commonly. These cats have significantly large eyes and ears. Singapura breed is one of the natural breeds of the world. The breed was accepted by the Cat Fanciers’ Association (CFA) in 1982 for registration. The cat was originally found in Singapore and was imported to the US by a cat breeder who adopted it for a breeding program. The origin of their breed is still controversial as it is believed by some cat breeders that the three foundation cats of the Singapura Cats were originally found in USA and were taken to Singapore in 1974. The cat breed was then imported again to US and hence the breed originated in America not in Singapore. It was also said that Singapura is not a natural breed.
Singapuras are often showcased in cat shows but the breed is found rarely. Even in Singapore, this cat breed is not very common. In Singapore, Singapuras are also called Kucinta. Kucinta was new name given to this breed. The Singapura breed is popularly known to cat breeders in Singapore. The sculptures of these cats can even be found around Singapore River.
The Singapura cats are expensive pets. They are described by the CFA as ‘curious and playful’ cats. The cat can cost up to 600-800 US Dollars while some cats can even cost up to 1200 US dollars.
