
With the 29th selection in the first round of the 2009 on Tuesday 9th June, first year player draft, New York Yankees select Slade Heathcott, an outfielder from Texas High School, Texarkana, Texas. Slade Heathcott an 18-year-old, 6 ft 1 inch, 190lbs outfielder and high school pitcher from Texas High School, Texarkana, Texas is the first position player the Yankees have taken in the first round.
According to media Slade Heathcott acknowledges to rooting for the Red Sox, but after the Yankees drafted him with the 29th overall pick in the first round of Tuesday’s draft, it appears his devotion have already changed. Slade Heathcott has also received honor as a talented pitcher, although a shoulder injury kept him off the heap this season. Heathcott said he is also recovering from his left knee surgery which took place in November.
According to Baseball America ranks Slade Heathcott is the 18th best high school position player and the 72nd best prospect in the draft.
Slade Heathcott has some tough decisions to make; he may not immediately sign with the Yankees, if he commits to attend Louisiana State University.
Talking to the media Slade Heathcott said he is in a win-win position both ways, he also said I am prepared to get started if it works out. I am just in an exceptional position right now.
