“You must remember this ….. Woman needs man and man must have his mate….. it’s the same old story” is playing at the backend as the movie Sleepless in Seattle starts. Critics are of the view that film is very heavily inspired by “An Affair to Remember”. Whatever the critics say or even it is the same old story where a woman needs a man and man a female, Sleepless in Seattle is one of my all time favorites and the reason is not only my favorite actor Tom Hanks, I loved the plot and execution also.
Goes the TriStar logo and we see Tom Hanks with his son at a cemetery and Tom is explaining, his mother’s death to his son and that how unfair it is but that is how the things are made by God. As Tom with his son move to Seattle, he is totally unable to keep her wife out of his mind. Comes Christmas and it’s a special eve, Jona (Tom’s son) calls a local radio station and tell them that his father needs a new wife. Jona also pursues his father to share his story on radio.
As the story is aired, Tom starts receiving thousands of letters from across the nation. One of the writers is Meg Ryan. Jona like’s her style and tries to convince her father to meet Meg.
As Meg comes over to see Tom, she sees him with his sister, she mistakes that Tom is with his girl friend and returns back.
Jona invites Meg to meet his father at Empire State Building. Tom refuses but as Jona goes to the building Tom follows him.
Come the critical moments. Meg Ryan has decided to not to go there and instead having dinner with her fiancé.
She leaves the dinner and returns the ring to her fiancé and as she sees a heart made of red lights across, she rushes and its only at Empire State Building that he meets Meg really.
