The U.S. Team on Sunday took a plunge into an initial winning on the heels of Singles successes by Angela Stanford, Paula Creamer and Michelle Wie. Stanford Sunday was the first on the boards for the Americans, maintaining a 5&4 success over Becky Brewerton. Giving U.S. Team an early 10-8 lead, Creamer followed abruptly after with a 3&2 success over Suzann Pettersen. Wie thereafter halving the 18th hole with birdies got a 1 up success over 2007 European Captain Helen Alfredsson.
Catriona Matthew, British Open champion for 2009 RICOH Women, followed by primary point of the day for the Europeans after a 3&2 success over Kristy McPherson, and shortly afterward Brittany Lang made birdie her match on the 18th hole to halve with eleven-time European Team player Laura Davies.
Three matches stayed behind on the flow when Americans grasped the Cup, from which the first which finished when Christina Kim got a 2 up victory over rookie Tania Elosegui of European Team. Janice Moodie and Natalie Gulbis entered tee box at 18 all square and, after smashing their tee shots, they accepted the subsequent shot to each other, accordingly dividing the holes and the match. The final match of the day finished when Maria Hjorth, Cristie Kerr halved their match, therefore providing a 16-12 victory to the U.S. Team over the Europeans.
