The mother of Somer Thomson, whose body was found in a landfill on Thursday, is in a trauma. She told that whenever she heard this type of news in past years, she used to be upset. She was in great grief and wondered how somebody could do this to a child. We can only pray for the child and his aggrieved family.
The most ironic thing about the incident is that his mother was not reckless or care-free. She always believed in the strict monitoring of her children and she chose a house in whose neighborhood there was no sex offender. She told that she already knew that these type of maniacs target only those kids who are roaming around without their parents. She told about her childhood when her grandmother never allowed her to go and get back from school without her although it was only a very short distance from school. Even her grandmother was quite apprehensive about these type of offenders and she never abandoned her following during her walk towards school despite her agitation and pretended she was not following her but never lost sight of her granddaughter.
The parents who allow their children to come and go alone are risking their life and don’t know what misery they may suffer. She suggested that the parents need to cooperate with each other for the common cause of child protection. She proposed that parents should put cut-outs in the windows of houses so that if a child is lost he or she could go to that house and the resident can call the parents. She emphasized that there is a great deficiency of efforts on the national as well as international level. Child porn websites should be blocked effectively. She was of the firm view that the world is still not a safe place to live.
