Social realities and on-ground facts deeply rooted in every type of sub-culture are sometimes perceived as strange or indecent. While portraying a social situation, a writer or an actor may use those stereo-typical characters in his work. On the other hand, the visual angle at which such picture is taken is regarded as the indecency by some critics. They are of strong view that comedy should not take the form of buffoonery and be produced within the requisite limits.
The recent exchange of hot words between Tyler Perry and Spike Lee involves the similar controversy. Lee criticized the type of comedy Tyler is doing in “Meet the Browns” and “House of Payne” and regarded it as buffoonery. Lee was being interviewed by Ed Gordon on “our world with black enterprise”. Tyler lashed back to the comments of Lee and said that if his shows were buffoonery then why there is a huge fan base. He deposed that his shows revolve around the plots with an objective of developing good values among masses. “All these characters of mine are bait, bait to get people talking about God, love, family, and faith.”Tyler told to 60 minutes correspondent Byron Pitts. As far as Lee is concerned, he told that he was greatly disappointed by the work of Tyler especially when black America has begun the journey towards development and the election of Barak Obama is the example of the giant leap they have taken. Tyler very harshly responded and told that the comments of Lee have degraded not only me but also the black society we come from. He regarded his attitude as quite insulting to those people as if such characters do not exist at all.
