“Springtime for Hitler” a fictional play that Mel Brooks recreated under the name “The Producers” back in 1968 both as musical and as film. There is a story behind the remake of “Springtime for Hitler” is somewhat interesting. The production of a musical within the film was a unique concept and was appreciated by the viewers around the world. The movie “The Producers” still stands tall in Top 20 on the U.S film institute’s list. Writer Nazi Franz Liebkind wrote this fictional musical about Adolf Hitler.
Yesterday on 29th December Mel Brooks was awarded 32nd Annual Kennedy Centre Honour for his lifetime contribution to U.S culture through arts. The ceremony was hosted by Caroline Kennedy and President Obama alongside first lady and Vice President Joe Biden was also present at the occasion.
Mel Brooks, Robert DeNiro, Dave Brubeck, Bruce Springsteen and Grace Bumbry were honoured with the award. All the award recipients were paid tribute individually.
The writer, composer, producer, director and actor Mel Brooks was born in Brooklyn, N.Y back in 1926. Well known for his madcap and irreverent sense of humour that holds nothing sacred. His productions include Springtime for Hitler, The Producers, History of the World, Blazing Saddles, High Anxiety, Young Frankenstein and last but not least Robin Hood: Men in Tights.
Mel Brooks not only produced humour but more serious subjects are also the part of his production career that includes The Fly and My Favourite Year, The Elephant Man, Frances and 84 Charing Cross Road, but the production of his comedy, musical “Springtime for Hitler” is one of those film that will be remembered for a long, long time.
The award “Kennedy Centre Honours” paid tribute to all five versatile and diverse talents, all of them deserve the recognition of their peers.
