Born in the fifth century in a Britain which was ruled over by the Romans St. Patrick has had an eventful life to say the least. His journey towards the path of Christianity started early in his life when he was only a teenager, sixteen to be exact. When he was sixteen he was abducted by a band of thugs and thieves and was taken to an island which in modern day is the Republic of Ireland. After being kidnapped and put into captivity he had a vision which came in the form of a dream which told him to escape from his situation.
In his dream St. Patrick saw that there was a boat on the coast which he boarded and it took him to the mainland which was where he used to live before. After having the dream he gathered the courage to flee to the coast, where indeed as the dream had said there was a boat. He boarded the boat and made his way back to the mainland which was Britain. When he reached home he had been so inspired by the incident that he started going to church to study to become a priest.
Some years later St. Patrick was summoned by the Bishop to go to the island of Ireland with the Christian mission and spread the word of Christianity. Even before this St. Patrick had it in his mind to liberate the minds and hearts of the Irish people and though there are many who went after him to Ireland he is considered to be the one who initiated it all.
