Though many of you find it just another reason to drink plenty of beer and be merry, there is a history behind St.Patrick s Day and an interesting one at that too. Long before Britain became a sovereign nation it was ruled by the Romans under the expanse of the Roman Empire and in the Roman ruled Britain there lived a young boy Patrick. Everything was fine until one day he was taken away from his home forcefully by a group of raiders who kidnapped him and took him to an island.
While on the island Patrick had a dream that told him how to escape the crutches of his imprisonment. In the dream he saw something that would later give him the life that gives the meaning behind St.Patrick s Day, he saw that there was a vessel on the coast that would deliver him to his homeland and that he needed to get to the coast somehow. So as the dream had said Patrick got to the coast somehow where he saw the boat just as the dream had told him and he got onboard. He was brought back to Britain and now his faith in god had reached such a level that he joined a church to become a priest and the strange twist of fate is that later on he was told by the Bishop to return to the island, where he had once been held captive. And spread the word of Christianity.
St.Patrick s Day is now a holiday in the Republic of Ireland and is a reason for Irish people to celebrate it wherever they may be. A lot of beer is drunk on this day and people go about celebrating the impact of Saint Patrick on the Irish population which was made so many years ago.
