A star studded, hit film of 1986 based on a story by the author Stephen King. Stand by me is included in Stephen King’s collection of stories. If someone asks me what childhood is about, I would answer “adventure”. It’s the time, we have not learnt to be fearful or hypocrite.
The film is about 4 friends Gordie, Chris, Teddy and Vern Tessio. As the boys hear the news that a guy has been overrun by the train while in jungle but his dead body is still a mystery they decide to embark on a mission to discover the body and become famous. The boys are not special; they are from the families living around us. Each has his own set of problems and carrying unique set of scars on the psyche from childhood traumas. Gordie’s father loved his elder brother who was athletic and was a football star. He died and the result is that Gordie’s father cannot love Gordie, even though he has talent as an author and the gang sees him as potentially successful in life. Chris’ is from a family which is deep into crimes and drugs. Again Teddy has a mentally instable father. His father has served in army and once burnt Teddy’s ear in rage. The incident has made Teddy to wear hearing aid. Vern has weight problem.
The opposition comes in the form of another gang with evil intentions. The boys remained successful in their quest but didn’t take the dead body back home and left it for police.
Film ends with writer telling about the future of each boy.
