People are saying that the new sun maid girl looks more of a sex symbol than a symbol of working class Americans working hard to make both ends meet. Moreover the raisins are regularly given to the school going children. Skinny models already have such a deleterious effect on children and have given rise to the eating disorders like Anorexia and an image of such a model on the pack of raisins would certainly increase the trend.
Moreover it is important that logo would represent all classes of the society, the new Sun Maid Girl represents only a small faction of the society. People have definitely rejected the new girl.
The company is also planning to show new Sun Maid Girl doing gymnastics, and other day to day chores. That would further aggravate the controversy. The company spokesman also said that the new Sun Maid Girl is a symbol of health and is an effort to make people eat more nutritious food. However the claims are not at all supported by the actual figure of the new girl.
