Swamp Thing is a 1982 Sci-Fi/comedy. Wes Craven’s directing talents had given the movies like “A Nightmare on Elm Street” their sky rocketing popularity. He left his usual track to direct the “Swamp Thing”. The movie went on to be a hit among the Vertigo Comics fans.
A top secret experiment is being carried out in a Government facility. Dr. Alec Holland is in charge of the experiment. He is trying to achieve the feat of combining both animal and plant cells and thus creating a species that is between zoological and botanical kingdoms. Alice Cable is a Government agent sent to safeguard the experiment and liaise between Dr. Holland and Government. At first Cable finds it difficult to adjust in the environment but soon falls foe Dr. Holland.
Dr. Holland has been able to prepare a serum that would transform a normal human being into the one with both botanical and zoological characteristics.
Meanwhile a gang of criminals get the smell of the project and they become adamant to steal the serum. As the gang attacks the facility their first victim is Dr, Holland’s sister, who is killed by them.
As Doctor is administered the serum accidently, he at once catches fire and to put out the flames, dives into a swamp. In fact he himself has become a “Green Man” or the “Swamp Things. He saves Cable from the rogue gang.
Now the leader of the gang is hell bent on finding Dr. Holland.
The film was heavily criticized to have deviated in more than one ways from the original theme of the comics.
