I had heard and spoken the word breathtaking, but never really meant it. As I saw the photographs of Taktsang Monastery in the Kingdom of Bhutan, they really took my breath away. Aweinspiring, Taktsang Monastery looks like a sparkling jewel beautifully fitted by a crafts man in the hill. It is almost miraculous to think of the construction of the monastery when there were no modern machines around. Even with the availability of the technology, it would be a mammoth task to come up with a beauty like Taktsanag Monastery. The monastery is situated on a vertical hill at about 3000 m. It can be reached by Paro in the Kingdom of Bhutan. Monastery remains shut for outsiders most of the time, however the outside view is enough to grasp (or the more appropriate word would be to absorb) the beauty of the site. Taktsang Monastery is also called a “Tigers Nest” for its architecture. There are some 9 holy caves around Taktsang Monastery and Buddhists masters are said to have meditated in the caves. Some of the temples in the monastery are Kudung Stupa Building, Dorlo Lhakhang, Guru Rinpoche and Pelgyi Singye Temple, “Guru Sungjoen Temple, Guru Rinpoche Temple etc.
Clad in clouds the hazy atmosphere adds to the mystery and sacredness of the monastery. Himalayas are famous for meditating lamas and gurus. Some of the famous Gurus have completed their training in Taktsang Monastery in Buutan like Milarepa and Padampa Sangye.
So if you have been saving money to escape all the soullessness, don’t waste it on “Some Asia truly Asia” where you would again be in the same surroundings, you have escaped from; in the first place.
