Tuesday on 9th June, 2009, the first day of the major-league draft, Right-hander Tanner Bushue of tiny Farina South Central near Effingham went to Houston Astros with the 19th pick of the second round. Tanner Bushue is a two sport star; he played not only baseball but basketball as well at South Central High School in Farina, Illinois. He can throw ball consistently in the mid 90s and above. Tanner Bushue is a 180-pounder, 6-foot-4-inch, and he can pitch 88 to 90 MPH with a fastball that reportedly sits at 93 MPH. Tanner Bushue sees minor top-level competition because his high school is very small, so it is hard to judge his potential.
When his baseball team traveled last summer and he was provided with the opportunity to prove himself he was unable to perform because of his sprained right knee which has compounded the problem a bit more, nevertheless, the Houston Astros apparently saw enough to select Tanner Bushue.
The 4th round of draft will resume today on Wednesday and there is a great chance that Left-hander Ian Krol of Neuqua Valley as Illinois high schooler will be selected. Ian Krol was suspended for his senior season and his stocks fell after he violated the school athletic code for the second time.
