According to a New Risk Assessment, Tanning Beds are also one of the reasons for cancer just like smoking. All kinds of Ultraviolet rays including Tanning Beds are now categorized as the most risky group by the “International Agency for Research on Cancer”. According to a Medical research published in today’s medical journal “Lancet Oncology” researchers have placed Tanning beds and UV rays in the similar group like Radium and Plutonium.
From now on, UV rays and Sun Beds are alleged “Carcinogenic to Humans”. Researchers of France-based International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and Fatiha E1 Ghissassi of Lyon said in the study that if someone use tanning beds before the age of thirty then it will increase the risk to have skin cancer known as “Melanoma” raised by 75 % in user’s body.
“Some people feel the need to tan to compete. My advice to them is: don’t do it with a sun bed, don’t even go get the tan outside,” Vincent Cogliano, the head of the IARC Monographs program (a World Health Organization unit) said in a telephone interview yesterday.
According to the web site of “American Cancer Society”, Melanoma originate from a kind of skin cells known as “Melanocytes” which make skin brown or tan and keep protected the deeper layer from the danger rays of sun. According to an estimate made by ACS, 68,720 new cases will be diagnosed and 8,650 will die from this skin cancer by the end of 2009.
