Making its first appearance in John Denvers’ album titled Back Home Again, Thank God I m a Country Boy is a catchy song that has been covered by many bands since it came out in the year 1974. The song was written by John M Sommers and then sung and recorded by John Denver who is a singer and a songwriter most well known for his singles such as “Leaving on a Jet Plane” and “Take Me Home, Country Roads.”
Thank God I m a Country Boy is a song about the singer being glad that he was born on a farm where he gets to lead a simple life. The name of the song should actually make it pretty obvious as this is one book you can judge by its cover. After each verse, or more like the ending of each verse ends with the statement – Thank God I m a Country Boy.
The song has been covered by Billy Dean just six years ago in the year 2004, then the Canadian singer Brad Johner who sings country music covered it a year before that in 2003, then the Road Hammers, another Canadian Rock Country band did a different edit of the song for their album which they released in the year 2009 which went by the name of “The Road Hammers II”, that’s not all, Hampton the Hampster did a performance of the song in the year 2004 and then finally the Point Of Grace have been doing a version of it in which they sing it as ” Thank God I’m a Country Girl”.
