The Skeleton Key is 2005 horror movie featuring Kate Hudson in the role of Nurse Caroline. Caroline is a sympathetic nice nurse, who has become dissatisfied with her profession because of the death of an elderly patient. Her own father died while nobody was along his side to take care of him. As she is contemplating to find some alternate, there is an ad in the paper requiring a nurse to care of an elderly patient. The house is located at a lonely and dreadful place. As she meets Violet and her husband Ben, who is a stroke patient and is paralyzed, she thinks of not accepting the job altogether. However, family lawyer Luke intervenes and Caroline become ready to take the job of caring Ben.
While taking care of Ben, once, he grabs her hand firmly, giving her a hint that he is in need of help, but she is not convinced. As the plot progresses, at one time Ben writes the words “Help Me” confirming Caroline’s suspicions. Caroline is given the Skeleton Key which can open every room in the house. As Caroline opens the door of basement, she is flabbergasted to find every prop of hoodoo magic there. Violet’s behavior and Ben’s condition makes Caroline believe that Violet has cast some spell on Ben. She becomes firm in her decision to help Ben and learn some hoodoo magic only to get herself trapped in the vicious circle.
As Caroline realizes that her body is taken by an old African spirit she is all but helpless and realizes that in fact it is Luke’s soul which has inhabited Ben’s body.
Overall a good movie which is sure to scare almost everybody.
