Watching Thierry Henry’s Handball Video, the memories of Maradonna’s “Hands of God Goal” have come swarming to my mind. It was June 11, 1986; the match was between Argentina & England teams. Maradonna ran towards the goal line and as he received a pass above his head he jumped and there it was, the ball was in the goal. Everybody thought it was Maradonna’s head, but slow motion of the goal revealed how exactly the ball has been thrown into the goal post. Maradonna called it the work of the Hands of God!
Thierry Henry is not so fortunate to have received “commandment” from high above to throw the ball in the goal using hands. He has admitted that his hand touched the ball before another player made it to goal post. It was a qualifier match between French and Irish soccer teams for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. A long pass was thrown towards the Irish goal post. Thierry Henry was positioned at the right side of the goal post. French team’s captain touched the football before using his foot to direct the ball, towards William Gallas who was wearing 15 number shirt. The goal keeper has run towards the right side of the post as it was all evident that the ball would fall at the right side of the post. Thierry Henry’s hand game made it easier for Gallas to direct the ball into post.
French Captain’s hand play resulted in the victory of French team.
