Tim Lincecum has to face criminal charges when marijuana was found from his custody. He was checked by a police officer who caught him during a traffic stop in Washington. The 2008 CY Young award winner was suspected when he was driving the car on 74 mph on a road where only 60 mph was the maximum speed limit. The officer asked him to comply with the request when he smelled marijuana. He handed over few grams of the alleged drug to the officer. But the officer was not of the view that the player is impaired, so he let him go but cited him. The lawyer of lincecum has denied all charges on his client and has pleaded not guilty. He has to appear before the court of law on December 22 and has to pay $622 for the offence of possessing the banned substance. The lighter sentence was due to small amount of marijuana. Lincecum, who is from Seattle, is not responding to media nor is his agent taking calls. As far as the representative of Giants is concerned, he also has warded off the media and did not disclose what disciplinary action, if any, is in the pipeline. The representative Jim Moorehead said “the team was still gathering information and has no comment at this time.” There is very low probability of dire consequences of the incident on his career. The Major League Baseball has a lenient policy towards occasional use of the drug but the conviction may result in repeated tests of the players who use the drug to boost their performance. Nor the charges may jeopardize his income.
