Topsfield Fair is the oldest agriculture fair in America. Basic purpose of fairs is trading and exhibition and associated festival or carnival is entertaining program arranged both for exhibition and trading point of view.This Topsfield Fair is 186 years old, amazingly, this fair has seen the colors, people and changing traditions of all these years.
The fair started in 1838 and held in every September in Oregon, US. This is an agriculture fair related to farming and cattle shows but now the fair has been extended to many fields. This is a fair with the theme of agriculture but there held a number of competitions for different items and categories.
There was a yeast baking contest arranged with the name “Bake for the Cure”, on October 5, to help the breast cancer survivor and to raise awareness among the women. Sheryl James, a Danvers resident, won first prize in the Batter Bread division and she participated in the contest in memory of one of her friend, Donna Shipp, who lost her life due to breast cancer.
Judging began at 7 p.m. and the winners were announced at 9, Arbitrating began at 7 p.m. and the conquerors were announced at 9. Every single entry was judged on taste, 40 percent; texture, 20 percent and presentation, 40 percent. Breast cancer-themed garlands were also appreciated in the contest.
Though the judges selected first, second and third prizes winner but James, with her Caramel Apple Baked Bread was appreciated most. She used a pink napkin with the same color ribbon. This was designed for breast cancer with heaps of “go for the cure” pins on it, and pink ribbon lollipops adds more to the fact that James was encouraging breast cancer awareness.
