A tornado has confirmed by the “National Weather Service in Buffalo” in Corfu and Darien in Genesee County on 25th of July, 2009. An F1 Tornado along with strong winds of about 100mph hit the county of southern Genesee on this Saturday evening as confirmed by the eyewitness and damage assessment team. The Tornado first stroke the Town of Darien at about 4:50 p.m. and then it moved into the Village of Corfu (east northwest for about 3.5 miles) at 5:00 p.m. Tornado was hundred yards wide and it caused damage mostly in the southern part of Village, where 25 to 30 house suffered damage due to Tornado.
A barn and one greenhouse were totally ruined, numerous big trees were uprooted, several vehicles sustained damage and approximately twenty power poles were taken down. Luckily there was not any single report regarding the injuries or death. The details regarding Tornado provided by “National Weather Service” are preliminary and there is still issue to further modify until final evaluation of the incident. With the assistance of “New York State Police” an aerial review will be conduct on Sunday of the damage spot.
The Tornado has classified by “The Enhanced Fujita Scale” into the categories from feeblest to strongest as; wind speeds of EF0 were 65 to 85 mph, wind speeds of EF1 were 86 to 110 mph, wind speeds of EF2 were 111 to 135 mph, wind speeds of EF3 were 136 to 165 mph, wind speeds of EF4 were 166 to 200 mph and wind speed of F5 was more than 200 mph.
