The Treaty of Ghent was a peace deal between United States of America and United Kingdom signed in 1814 in Netherlands. The Treaty of Ghent reminds us as the peace deal between United Kingdom and United States that broke the deadlock between the two countries. The news of peace deal prevailed through the United States of America very late due to slow pace of means of communication. The peace deal brought the parties to agree upon certain conditions which included release of prisoners and 10,000,000 acres of land by Britain. The treaty was a formal acknowledgment of the situation which existed before the war but it included some future promises as well. Britain accepted the proposal of handing over the black slaves to America but later on it paid off the price of slaves to America. Another proposal by the United Kingdom to form a buffer-zone of Indians proved to be a futile exercise as the Indians didn’t remain as coalition partners of the United Kingdom. As the means of communication were slow at that time, the news of peace deal reached America very late but, in the meanwhile, America had won the battle of New Orleans and Britain was victorious in the battle of Fort Bowyer. But peace deal halted an imminent attack of Britain on Alabama. The president of America James Madison after getting approval from the Senate approved the treaty. Few days after the treaty, Napoleon launched fresh attacks in Europe to divert the attention of Britain in a different strategic direction.
