The Triborough Bridge was closed down yesterday on the fifth day of May as many celebrated the Cinco de Mayo. The bridge was closed shortly after local auhorities spotted an abandoned vehicle on the bridge. The abandoned vehicle was a U-Haul truck which the driver had run away from leaving it on the middle of the Triborough Bridge. The police took the necessary action by calling the bomb squad and experts on hazardous substances. The experts were called because there was a strong stench reeking from the truck and the police thought that it might be some kind of chemical or biological weapon.
The security has been raised following the most recent incident in the heart of Times Square when Faisal Shazad left his jeep with a home made bomb in the back. The Triborough Bridge was re-opened again today as the U-Haul truck was found to be non-threatening. A lot of people were disrupted yesterday by the closing of the bridge and now they can resume their normal lives as the bridge has been reopened.
The Triborough Bridge connects three bouroughs of New York City with each other through the path of the Randall Island. The bridge has three arms with which it connects Manhattan, The Bronx and Queens boroughs. The bridge was renamed as the RFK bridge some years ago before which it was always known as the Triborough Bridge or the Triboro Bridge. The U-Haul truck was abandoned and there was no one inside and now the person who had left it is going to be searched for to find out the reasons why he left it standing on the middle of the bridge.
