Tryna Middleton 14, was short and slightly built. On September 21, 1984, she was abducted on knife point, brutally raped and murdered. Her body was found two hours later in parking lot.
Tryna Middleton was a 9th grad student at the high school. She was returning back to her house after a Friday night football game along with her two friends when they all noticed a car chasing them with its headlights off. Tryna and her friends changed their street and chose another street to get back to their homes, and across the turn they saw same car was again there. As they walked by the car somebody came from behind and tried to grab all three of them. The other two girls escaped but Tryna, the attacker grabbed her and threw Tryna into the car and sped.
Tryna’s body was later found in a nearby car parking. Her body was stabbed several times with a sharp object which had tore her heart muscle, killing her immediately. The attacker’s sperms were found in and around her body. A DNA analysis fixed the sperms to belong to someone with type B blood.
Rommel Broom was charged with the murder, with Tryna’s friends identifying him in a line up. Rommel Broom also had type B blood group. He was also charged with attempting to abduct two other minors in the same area.
On September 16, 1985. he was guilty on each of the charges, and was sentenced to death. All of Broom’s appeals were rejected. He was also denied the clemency. Broom was to be executed on 15th Sept, 2009 by a lethal injection. Incidentally the Doctors who were to administer the injection could not find suitable veins for inserting IVs. Broom’s execution has been delayed for 1 week. It is to be noted that two of his appeals are still pending with the court.
